Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)
Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site
Breast surgery · mastopexy · body contouring
Dr. Tongchun Mao is an aesthetic surgeon at Chongqing West District Hospital, where he is Deputy Director and Head of Aesthetic Surgery in its Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending and the responsible physician for this site. He personally performs more than 700 operations a year, within hospital standards of assessment, anaesthesia and follow-up.
His breast practice is planned from measurement rather than from a picture. In an assessment for a lift that means establishing where the nipple sits relative to the inframammary fold, how much skin is genuinely in excess, what the tissue volume is, how the patient's weight has behaved, and whether the complaint is position or emptiness — because those two problems take different operations and only one of them is a lift.
Dr. Mao is direct about the trade a lift involves. The scars are permanent and their length is set by how much correction is needed; the result is not permanent, because the breast continues to change; and a patient who wants fullness rather than position is better served by a different plan. His stated position is that an assessment which ends in a recommendation against surgery is a consultation that worked.
Clinical focus
The scars are the operation
A lift is a skin operation, and the incision pattern is decided by how much skin has to be removed. Patients who accept the scars from the beginning tend to be pleased with the result; patients who were told the scars would be negligible and then find they are not tend not to be. That conversation happens before the operation or it happens afterwards.
